I Can't Wait to Add Another Layer of Peach Tomorrow

I Can't Wait to Add Another Layer of Peach Tomorrow

On sunset earrings, getting better at the "boring" parts, and letting a story arrive instead of forcing one.

I decided against yellow yesterday, mostly because there was a different memory that wanted to be brought to life instead. So the sun earrings went somewhere else — a peach sunset feeling, black with a violet shimmer, a lot of sparkle that only shows up when the light actually reflects on it, and pink bubbles stamped in, meant to read like sea foam catching an orange-yellow sky.

There's a lot of stamping involved. It's slow. I still love it more than I expected to when I ordered my first silicone stamp.

Somewhere in the middle of it I realized the whole thing feels like a memory I brought home from a trip to the sea, without being an actual souvenir of it. Nothing about the earring is literally from that trip. But the sunset, the reflections, the bubbling water — it all ended up in the piece anyway, as if the place changed how I made the object without my really deciding that on purpose, just by letting me feel the sea, the sun, and life itself.

Getting Better at the Part Nobody Sees

I'm noticeably more precise at casting than I used to be, which means less and less sanding afterward — one of those quiet technical improvements that's satisfying entirely on its own, independent of how any single piece turns out. I'm not just making more. I'm getting better at making the things I actually want to make, and I can feel that accumulating. Having more spare time because of it lets me paint in new ways, and I love that.

The sunset earrings already have a story, more or less. Some pieces tell you what they are while you're making them. Others take longer, and I'd rather wait for that than invent something that isn't true. And I won't leave an idea unrealized if I can try it ;).

I waited longer for the paint to dry, than I wanted before adding the bubbles, letting the paint actually dry first instead of rushing it. Good call. Hard call.

More Than a Few Products

I've been enjoying, lately, the idea of putting more products into the shop generally — not just these. More objects means more stories, to be put in earrings, more things worth photographing, more reasons for the whole thing to feel like a growing world instead of a small fixed set of listings. A world meant to be noticed. A world meant to be lived.

Somewhere past a hundred bubble stamps into these sunset pieces, I stopped counting exactly and just kept going. That's usually the sign a piece is actually working. And in the end, it really did.

Once these finish drying for good, you'll find them in the shop — starting with the Peach Sunset Memory Earrings with Violet Shimmer and Bubbling Sea.
