I Don't Make Objects. I Make the Thread Between Them.

I've been in homes that were beautiful room by room and still felt wrong to walk through. A wallpaper I loved in one room. A different pattern, just as striking, in the next. Furniture chosen well, individually, in every space. And still, moving from room to room, it felt like each one had been decided by a different person, with no thread between the decisions.

There's a word in Slovenian for what was missing: rdeča nit. Literally, the red thread. The thing that ties a whole space — or a whole body of choices — into one story instead of a collection of separate, disconnected good ones. Without it, a home is a set of beautiful rooms. With it, every room is a chapter of the same book.

I couldn't stop thinking about why someone spends real money getting every individual choice right, and never quite gets to the thing that would connect them.

Then I recognized the thought, because it isn't really about apartments. It's how I look at everything.

I've had it pointed out to me that I always start the same way — describing one object. A wallpaper. A plant. An earring. But what I'm actually doing, every time, is mapping the relationship between that object and everything around it. That's not a writing habit. It's how my brain works. I don't experience things as separate from each other, even when I'd probably find it easier if I could. My brain links, sorts, and threads pretty much everything, whether I ask it to or not.

That's the same instinct behind why no piece I make exists completely on its own. Not "here's a berry" — here's a berry, and the light on it, and the water underneath, and the reason it looks the way it does. I don't see individual beautiful objects and stop there. I look for what connects them, because I genuinely can't not.

It was never really "earrings," if I'm honest. It's a way of looking at small things and refusing to let them stay separate from each other. The earrings were just the first place it showed up in a way I could sell — lately I've been following that same thread somewhere new: into rooms, walls, the objects people live with every day, to see where else it leads.
