This Is Not a Toy — The Story
It started with a failed mold.
Somewhere between polymer clay experiments that didn't quite work and a growing pile of "almost" pieces, something else showed up — small, strange, slightly imperfect things that felt more honest than anything planned. That's how This Is Not a Toy began. Not as a business plan, but as a compulsion to make.
Slow Fashion, Made From Scratch
Every series starts with nothing — no premade parts, no shortcuts. Each piece is hand-poured in UV resin and hand-painted with acrylic from the very first layer, in small series, in a studio in Ljubljana, Slovenia. It's slow by design: no molds reused endlessly, no two pieces quite the same. In a world of fast fashion and identical drops, that's the point — this is jewellery made at the pace of patience, not a production line.
My brain works a little differently, and I've stopped treating that as something to hide. I'm neurodivergent, and the way I notice texture, repetition, and small detail is exactly what shows up in this work — the hours of layering resin, the fixation on getting one tiny gold fleck exactly right. What might look like an obsessive habit somewhere else is, here, the whole craft. I don't make jewellery despite how my mind works. I make it because of it.
The name? It's a small provocation, borrowed from the kind of warning label you'd find on something not meant for children — a reminder that this isn't mass-produced, disposable, or made to be identical. It's made to be noticed. Worn by people who like their objects a little slow, a little strange, and completely intentional.
